Hoan Kiem Lake
Hồ Hoàn Kiếm, meaning “Lake of the Returned Sword” or “Lake of the Restored Sword”, also known as Hồ Gươm – Sword Lake) is located in the heart of Hanoi, Sword Lake is picturesque. Its ancient Tortoise tower, The Huc bridge and Ngoc Son temple made the lake the pride of Hanoians and probably the first image that the name “Hanoi” evokes in Hanoians living far from home.
Thanks to this geographical location, Hoan Kiem Lake is very convenient for visitors to access and walk around the lake. In addition, you can also visit famous landmarks around as well as learn about the distinctive culture of the old town system around the lake.
What to do:
Ngoc Son Temple is a popular religious destination at Hoan Kiem Lake. The temple is situated on a small islet on the lake. According to the steles found at the site, the temple was built in 1841 and renovated in 1865
Right next to the Hoan Kiem Lake you will find the Thang Long theater where you can watch a traditional water puppet show. The 1-hour show is taken place in Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre which comprises 17 short sketches with the use of traditional puppets.
Shows are played by a Vietnamese orchestra who accompanies stories, and musicians playing songs using wooden bells, drums, bamboo flutes, cymbals, and horns.
The Hop On Hop Off Vietnam bus is also a double-decker bus serving tourists’ needs for sightseeing in Hanoi. You can choose seats on the second floor to enjoy the beautiful view of Hoan Kiem Lake from above.
The event has created a walking space, a special cultural space that promotes the image of the capital Hanoi and created a cultural exchange environment between the local and foreign travelers. The walking street also connects with the night market weekend from Hang Duong street to Dong Xuan market where you can stroll or go shopping, taste special street food of Hanoi.
